Product Description:

The Festo ADVU-12 is a compact pneumatic cylinder designed with a double-acting mechanism and a bore size of 12 mm. It features an integrated magnetic piston, which allows for accurate position sensing during operation.

This cylinder is equipped with elastic cushioning rings at both ends, known as P-type cushioning, to ensure smooth and controlled movement. It comes in standard stroke lengths ranging from 5 mm up to 40 mm to suit various application needs.

Clients can choose between different piston rod thread options, including an internal thread (designated as ‑P‑A) or an external thread (marked as ‑A‑P‑A). The operating pressure for the ADVU-12 spans from 1.2 bar to 10 bar, making it suitable for a range of pneumatic systems.

Its compact design and reliable position feedback make the Festo ADVU-12 ideal for automation tasks where space is limited but precise control is essential.

Features:

The design is ultra-compact, requiring up to 50% less installation space compared to ISO 15552 cylinders. This makes it an excellent choice for machines with limited space and tight layouts.

Featuring double-acting operation, the cylinder delivers driving force during both the forward and return strokes. This ensures smooth, consistent, and controllable motion throughout its use.

An integrated magnetic piston allows for non-contact position sensing via proximity sensors. This design enables sensor replacement without the need for any mechanical adjustments.

The elastic cushioning, designated as P-type, effectively reduces impact energy at the end positions. This minimizes vibration and noise, contributing to quieter machine operation.

Constructed from robust and corrosion-resistant materials, the cylinder includes an anodised aluminium barrel and end caps, a stainless steel piston rod, and NBR/TPE-U seals. The corrosion resistance level is rated CRC 2, suitable for demanding industrial environments.

Flexible mounting options are available, with through-holes on the barrel as well as a variety of mounting accessories. This versatility facilitates easy and adaptable installation in various setups.

Users can select between two piston rod thread options to accommodate different load attachments: an internal thread (-P-A) or an external thread (-A-P-A).

Technical Parameters:

Festo ADVU Series Cylinder Specifications

The Festo ADVU series cylinder is designed for efficient pneumatic operations. It features a bore size of 12 mm and employs a double-acting operation mode, allowing it to perform work during both extension and retraction strokes.

This model includes elastic cushioning rings and pads at both ends to reduce impact forces smoothly. It is equipped with an integrated magnetic piston, enabling reliable position sensing throughout its movement. The operating pressure ranges from 1.2 to 10 bar, suitable for various pneumatic applications.

The cylinder is intended to operate using compressed air conforming to ISO 8573‑1:2010 standards, whether lubricated or unlubricated. It can function reliably in ambient temperatures from -20 °C to +80 °C. The pneumatic connection is specified as M5, facilitating compatibility with common fittings.

Constructed from a wrought aluminium alloy for both the barrel and end caps, the cylinder ensures durability and corrosion resistance rated at CRC 2, indicating moderate resistance. The piston rod is made of high-alloy stainless steel to withstand mechanical stresses and environmental factors.

The dynamic seals utilize NBR and TPE-U(PU) materials, providing effective sealing and longevity. In terms of performance, the theoretical force generated at 6 bar pressure is 68 N during the advance stroke and 51 N on the return. The end position impact energy is rated at 0.07 joules, minimizing wear on the mechanism.

Weight considerations include a moving mass of 8 grams at zero stroke and an additional 2 grams for every 10 mm of stroke. The basic weight of the cylinder at zero stroke is 87 grams, increasing by 15 grams per each additional 10 mm stroke length.

This cylinder conforms to the CETOP RP 52 P standard as well as ISO 6432 for round design cylinders, ensuring compatibility and quality in professional pneumatic systems.

Applications:

Automated assembly lines utilize compact stations to efficiently perform tasks such as clamping, positioning, sorting, stopping, and ejecting workpieces. These streamlined processes help enhance production speed and accuracy in manufacturing environments.

In the field of electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, automation plays a crucial role in precise pick-and-place operations, integrated circuit handling, PCB depaneling, and the assembly of delicate components. This precision is essential to maintain the integrity of sensitive electronic parts.

Packaging and filling machinery benefit from automation in actions like carton pushing, sealing press operations, and valve actuation, especially in confined spaces where precise control is necessary to ensure proper packaging quality.

The medical devices and laboratory automation sector relies on smooth, low-force motion systems for diagnostic equipment, sample transportation, and liquid handling tasks. These gentle movements are vital for maintaining the accuracy and safety of medical procedures.

In printing and textile machinery, automation supports functions such as paper positioning, cutting press operations, and yarn clamping, even within oily or inky environments. This helps maintain consistent quality despite challenging working conditions.

Robot end effectors are designed with compact pneumatic gripper drives, which are ideal for collaborative robots and various pick-and-place units. These compact drives enable efficient and flexible handling of objects in robotic automation.
