Product Description:

The ASCO solenoid valve portfolio offers a wide and comprehensive selection of high-performance valves designed to provide dependable control in various industries. These valves are tailored to meet the demands of industrial automation, process control, and hazardous area environments, ensuring optimal functionality and safety. The portfolio features multiple series, each created with specific applications and requirements in mind.

The 551 and 8551 Series consist of pilot-operated spool valves especially suitable for pneumatic control systems. These valves include a NAMUR interface and boast a convertible design that allows a single valve to operate as either a 3/2-way or 5/2-way valve. This flexibility makes them ideal for both single-acting and double-acting actuators. Particularly, the 551 series provides a highly versatile platform for various pneumatic system needs.

The 8320 and 320 Series comprise direct-acting and some pilot-operated 3/2-way valves engineered for a broad range of general service applications. A key feature of these valves is their ability to operate effectively without requiring a minimum pressure differential, enhancing their applicability in diverse system configurations.

The 8210 and 8262 Series include pilot-operated 2/2-way valves designed for general service use with liquids, corrosive substances, and air or inert gases. The 210/8210 series is recognized for delivering cost-effective, high-flow performance. Meanwhile, the 8262 series offers a durable and robust design suited for demanding 2/2-way valve applications.

Additionally, the 531 Series features spool valves capable of 3/2 or 5/2 functions and often includes intrinsically safe (IS) options for use in safety-critical environments. The 210 Series highlights models such as the 8210G094, which are engineered for reliable service with both liquid and gas media.

These valves are constructed from a variety of body materials including black anodized aluminum, brass, and 316L stainless steel. Seal options encompass NBR, PUR, and FKM to accommodate different media and environmental conditions. They are available in multiple configurations such as 2/2-way, 3/2-way, and 5/2-way, with either single or double solenoid designs supporting spring return or bistable operations. Many of the models feature NAMUR mounting interfaces and protection ratings of IP65, IP66, and IP67. For applications in hazardous or demanding environments, explosion-proof variants are offered with certifications including ATEX, IECEx, UL, and CSA, as well as low-power versions to optimize energy consumption.

Features:

551 / 8551 Series (Spool Valves)

These spool valves feature a NAMUR interface with threaded port connections, enabling direct mounting to actuators. Their design allows a single valve to be configured for either a 3/2 normally closed (NC) function or a 5/2 function, offering versatility to meet different application requirements.

The exhaust ports on these valves are pipable, which means they can be interconnected to enhance environmental protection. This feature is particularly beneficial for sensitive environments such as clean rooms. Additionally, the series holds certifications from TÜV (for the 551 series) and EXIDA (for the 551-553 series), ensuring compliance with Safety Integrity Levels SIL 2 (with no hardware fault tolerance) and SIL 3 (with a hardware fault tolerance of one).

For ease of use, these valves come equipped with a standard manual operator, which simplifies both commissioning and maintenance processes.

8320 / 320 Series (Direct-Acting)

The 8320 and 320 series are designed to cover a broad spectrum of general-service applications. Their direct-acting mechanism allows operation without the need for a minimum pressure differential, improving flexibility. Moreover, the valves can be mounted in any orientation, facilitating installation in diverse settings.

8210 / 8262 Series (General Service)

These economical valves are designed for high-flow scenarios involving liquids, corrosive substances, and air or inert gases. They are constructed from either brass or stainless steel, providing durability and compatibility with various media types.

531 Series

The 531 series valves offer functional flexibility, as they are available in both 3/2-way and 5/2-way configurations. They are certified for intrinsic safety, making them suitable for use in hazardous locations where electrical current and voltage must be strictly limited.

Features Across All Series

Across all the valve series, multiple body materials are offered, including aluminum, brass, and stainless steel, catering to different application demands. The valves also support a variety of voltage options such as DC 24V, AC 24V, AC 120V, and AC 220V.

For use in hazardous environments, explosion-proof variants certified by ATEX and IECEx are available. Additionally, low power models are offered for installations that require remote operation or alternative power supply options.

Regarding performance, the valves provide high flow rates: 1/4-inch models typically achieve up to 700 liters per minute, while 1/2-inch models can handle flows of approximately 3000 liters per minute.

Applications:

Applications of Pneumatic Actuator Control

Pneumatic actuator control is commonly used for direct NAMUR mounting on quarter-turn actuators. This method provides precise and reliable control essential in numerous industrial settings.

In the realm of industrial automation, pneumatic control systems serve a wide range of general-purpose applications. These systems play a vital role in manufacturing processes and process automation, ensuring efficient and consistent operations.

Process control is another key area where pneumatic actuators excel. They are frequently employed for valve actuation and fluid regulation within chemical, petrochemical, and hybrid industry environments, providing accurate and safe handling of various substances.

For hazardous locations, specially designed explosion-proof and intrinsically safe versions of pneumatic actuators are available. These are suitable for use in Zone 1, 2, 21, and 22 environments, ensuring safety without compromising performance.

Water and wastewater treatment facilities utilize pneumatic controls to manage water flow and treatment chemical dosing effectively. This contributes to improved treatment processes and environmental compliance.

In pharmaceutical and food processing industries, pneumatic systems are adapted for clean room applications. Their environmentally protected constructions meet stringent hygiene and safety standards required in these fields.

The oil and gas sector benefits from pneumatic control for managing liquid petroleum gases and other fluid substances. These controls enhance operational safety and efficiency in this critical industry.

Packaging machinery relies on pneumatic actuation to control various packaging and material handling equipment. This ensures smooth, reliable automation throughout packaging operations.

Remote and alternative power locations, such as solar-powered or battery-operated installations, utilize low-power pneumatic control configurations. These designs provide effective operation even in remote or off-grid settings.

Finally, analytical and diagnostic equipment use pneumatic actuators for precision fluid control. This precision is essential in sensitive instruments where accuracy and reliability are paramount.
